Today, I gave away $3, and it made me feel well-to-do and grateful, even though my own funds are limited and stretched.
This was the second time I saw this young man on that corner seeking a show of generosity from anyone driving by.
Like most moderns, my buying transactions don’t involve cash. Therefore, the first time I saw him, I had nothing to share. But the despair on his face made a dent in my heart. So I decided to create a permanent generosity stash in my glove box — I wanted to be prepared in the future.
I don’t know what his story is. I don’t know what he will do with the few dollars I shared–and I don’t care.
I’m just thrilled that the Universe placed him and me in the same place again. This time, I was ready to show compassion and goodwill to another soul.
It is never how much you give, but the spirit in which it was given. Remember the lesson of the widow’s offering from the Book of Mark 12:41? All she had was two pennies and she gave it all. We should all be sympathetic and show love and kindness whenever the opportunity presents itself. In this life, we never know when we will be in a position where we need the help of others.
I love the story of the widow’s offering. It’s a lesson to us all.
I love your mum’s answer so I’m going to say Ditto!!!
Yes, Lianne. She left a good one. Also, one of my favorite stories.
Yes, it’s not how much. It’s that you made the effort to brighten someone else’s day. I know it’s a great feeling, as I do the same. But, not often enough. Also, really loved the about you page
