Save Yourself from Ick

I wish, I wish someone had pounded the quoted words below into my heart and mind from BEFORE the time I was old enough to comprehend the width and depth of human treachery.

And I wish that I would have had the wisdom to listen and heed.

It could have saved me so much heartbreak and misery and icky-ness. So much.

Because if these words had been written in my heart and my mind in permanent ink, I would never have spoken to him on the train all those years ago, or later.

And I would not still  have these icky memories taking up any space in my head.

Call to action: Are there people who you connected with years ago, who are thankfully no longer in your life, but who still make you feel icky today when you think back?

  1. I believe we make these mistakes and have these memories so we ca learn from them. They are also reminders for us to carefully vet the people we let into our lives. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, the shame in on me. I have gained a wealth of knowledge from my past mistakes.

    • You’re right on all counts. But, unfortunately, I am unable–or take too long–to get over my past icky connections. So I still wish I had avoided the muck entirely! My advice to others: Vet like your life depends on it!

  2. I agree that we are not only the sum of our own choices, but also get caught up in other people’s choices too. UGH!
