I don’t think there’s anything exceptional or noble in being philanthropic. It’s the other attitude that confuses me. ~Paul Newmam
Recently, I came across an article entitled “The 31 Best Non-A**hole Celebrities on Planet Earth.”
The title intrigued me, so I took the bait and wasted a bit of my life to take the time to scan the article.
I did not expect much and I got even less.
The article’s opening paragraph did not disappoint with this pile of dung: “These are the good guys. The women and men who don’t have to give a sh*t, but do anyway – about you, about the person who brings them coffee between takes and about the world we live in. And, we can infer, children everywhere.”
Yep, same old, tiresome, misguided tripe. We just don’t get it. And I despair that we ever will.
The test of a civilization is in the way that it cares for its helpless members. ~ Pearl S. Buck
Here’s a truth…
Being rich and/or famous does NOT exempt anyone from caring about our planet or its inhabitants, especially those who cannot fend for themselves or are in desperate need.
If you are a human being, if you are still here among the living, and if you have any level of deep intelligence, you understand that not only does human decency demand it, but it only makes sense to give a sh*t.
It is not caring, regardless of whom you are blessed to be or what you have been blessed to have inherited or accumulated, that is incomprehensible!
When we look upon another and can taste the salt from their tears or feel the pain of their flesh or circumstance and are moved to show up, to give of ourselves and our precious resources, this is when we are… when we are most human.
